Printable Crafts and Fabric Transfers FAQs

1. Do I need to do anything before I iron on my fabric transfer?

You will need to prep your ironing surface before ironing on the transfer. Use a hard, heat-resistant surface—but DO NOT use an ironing board. Set a cotton pillowcase on the hard surface. Iron the pillowcase and garment first to remove wrinkles before placing the transfer in the desired location on garment and ironing.

2. What type of printer is best for Avery Fabric Transfers?

Use an inkjet printer for all Avery Fabric Transfers. These transfers WILL NOT work with a laser printer.

3. What do I do if the image is not sticking to my shirt when I peel the backing paper off?

If you have allowed the image to cool for the designated time, continue to iron the spots that are lifting up with the backing paper for 30-40 seconds. Allow the transfer to cool again for the designated time, and then try to peel the backing paper from the transfer again.

4. Does the product work on paper?

Avery Fabric Transfers are specifically designed for fabric materials (t-shirts, sweatshirts, cotton/canvas bags, hats, aprons, etc.). The high temperature of the iron causes the adhesive of the fabric transfer to adhere to the fabric. If the transfer material were to be ironed onto paper, the high heat would cause the paper product to melt or burn.

5. If I want to print on a ribbed tank top, what transfer product would be best for this type of material?

For ribbed or stretchy garments, use Avery Stretchable Fabric Transfers (3302) . This product is designed for white synthetic fabric or synthetic blend fabrics.

6. Does Avery have any type of product guarantee with Fabric Transfers?

The Avery Fabric Transfer Product Guarantee: Avery is committed to providing you with quality products and will gladly replace any product which does not provide complete satisfaction. Results are guaranteed when printing, application and washing instructions for all fabric transfer products are followed. For extended usage, use heat press rather than household iron. Product Guarantee is void if all instructions are not followed. Please feel free to contact us for any questions, comments or suggestions.
