Design & Print Online: How to Change a Template Background

A quick look at how to change a template background using Design & Print Online

Have you found a template in our Design & Print Online section that you love, but wish you could give it a different background? Good news, changing a background is easy. Here’s a quick step-by-step to show you how it’s done.

NOTE: Before you get started, keep in mind that some templates have backgrounds that have been pre-designed with white space and special details intended to enhance the overall design. In this case, it may be best to leave the template with its existing background.

Unlock the Background

Typically, in order to change a template’s background, you’ll need to unlock it first. This can be easily done by selecting the Unlock Background button located in the image menu.

Delete the Background

Once the background is unlocked it will shrink into the foreground. To remove it, simply ensure that it is selected and hit Delete.

Choose a New Background Image

Use the Image menu on the right-hand side of your screen to access the Add Image option. Here, you can add an image from a wide selection of sources. For this tutorial, we’ll select an image from the Avery Gallery. Here, we have a special gallery called Backgrounds. This is a great place a wide selection of background images.

Set the Background

Once you’ve selected the image you want to use, setting it up as the new background in your template is as easy as the click of a button. All you have to do is click Set as Background from the image menu and it will lock into place behind any other images and text.

OPTIONAL: Make Your Background Transparent

What you if like the overall look of your background, but want it to be transparent? Great new, you can do that too! Once your background is in place, hit the Change Transparent Colour button from the image menu.

Next, click the area on your background that you’d like to make transparent.
