Avery is proud to feature Ontario-based Cameras for Girls in our Customer Spotlight for March 2021! This life-changing company is dedicated to offering a solution to the poverty experienced by women and girls in developing countries by providing them with skillsets and tools they may not otherwise be able to access on their own.
Helmed by photographer, tour guide and teacher Amina Mohamed, Cameras for Girls is actively transforming the lives of women and girls in Uganda. In conjunction with sister company Triple F Photo Tours, Cameras for Girls raises funds and acquires a collection of Canon G series cameras that they take annually to Uganda, to be used in a 3-day training session for Ugandan women and girls in pursuit of a career in journalism. An invaluable service in a country where journalists must own their own camera and know how to use it in order to find employment.
Following completion of the program, the students walk away with a camera, the knowledge required to use it in the telling of compelling visual stories, and essential entrepreneurial and business skills. The result is an improved ability to find gainful employment in journalism and the opportunity to support themselves, their families and even their community.
